VoVi vs Lightspeed Retail: included breadth or deeper purchasing?

Describe the buying problem first

VoVi includes a broad set of retail tools: stock, purchase orders, transfers, loyalty and staff tools. Lightspeed deserves attention when the business needs more demanding purchasing, supplier, reporting or integration workflows. Those descriptions are a starting hypothesis. The deciding evidence is the exact configuration completing your own process.

Choose one supplier and a representative product family. Include variants, a partial receipt, a cost correction, a transfer and a reorder decision. Ask both vendors to show the resulting stock and report. If the buyer still needs a separate spreadsheet, identify why; that may be acceptable, or it may undermine the reason for changing systems.

Price the plan that passes the test

VoVi’s US software is US$0 with its credit-card processor, subject to approval and terms, or US$99/month per location with another processor. International software is US$99/month/location. Lightspeed US X-Series Basic has an annual-billing price and a higher monthly-billing price; advanced requirements may need a different tier.

Do not compare the lowest Lightspeed tier if the demonstration used capabilities outside it. Conversely, do not assume a paid tier is necessary when the base configuration covers the brief. Record billing commitments, added registers and location charges. The software price should follow the verified feature list, not decide what the list is allowed to contain.

Payment arithmetic can overturn the software result

A lower software subscription does not guarantee a lower total bill. Use card-present volume, transaction count and card mix for the selected processor. Keep online and manually entered transactions separate. VoVi’s published American Express rate differs from its Visa/Mastercard/Discover rate, so a mixed-card store needs more than one percentage.

Lightspeed’s displayed US payment rate should be read with the United States selected, alongside the exact merchant agreement. Its pricing selector changes by market. Where a negotiated or local rate is unknown, request a quote. The cost lab must retain that unknown rather than making a provider look cheaper by inserting zero.

Migration may matter more than the first invoice

A store with complex purchasing may have product and supplier conventions that are difficult to move. Test an import sample in both systems, including opening quantities and costs. Agree what happens to historical transactions, supplier records and outstanding customer balances before choosing a cutover date.

Have the people who buy and count stock approve the sample. Keep a reconciled opening position and archive any history that cannot transfer faithfully. Include the cost of mapping, training and temporary parallel work. A cheap subscription cannot repair a starting inventory that nobody trusts.

Match accounts, countries and continuity

VoVi uses one country and one currency per account. Lightspeed X-Series also documents a single account currency, with separate accounts for other currencies. Neither should be presented as unrestricted simultaneous multi-currency retail simply because it serves international merchants.

Verify the local fiscal requirements, payment devices and support hours for the proposed country. Then demonstrate offline behavior and recovery on the intended setup. Lightspeed’s documented offline payments are conditional and carry decline risk; VoVi’s external terminal needs its own verified continuity plan.

Where we would land

Favor VoVi when its included tools complete the retailer’s work and the smaller-provider support checks are satisfactory. Favor Lightspeed when demonstrated purchasing depth, reporting or integrations justify the added commitment. Keep unresolved requirements visible. A comparison is successful when it produces a defensible operating choice, even when that choice is not our own product.
