VoVi vs Shopify POS: retail bundle or connected commerce?

Choose the center of the business

If a Shopify online store drives catalog management, fulfillment and customer relationships, assess what changes when the register joins that platform. A shared workflow can be worth more than a lower standalone POS fee. Do not rebuild a functioning online operation solely to make a subscription comparison look smaller.

For a store whose work happens mainly at the counter, VoVi’s included stock, loyalty and staff functions may be more relevant. Ask whether a separate ecommerce platform would be needed and what it would cost. A fair comparison includes the systems required on both sides, rather than treating one provider’s online capabilities as unnecessary by default.

Compare full and incremental costs separately

For a new US setup, the published monthly-billed Shopify Basic subscription and annual-billed Pro add-on create a combined US$128 monthly equivalent for one Pro location. This combines different billing commitments and excludes hardware, processing and apps. VoVi’s US software is free with its processor or US$99/month/location with another processor; international software is US$99/month/location.

An existing Shopify merchant may already pay the base subscription to run the online store. In that case, show the incremental cost of adding the selected POS features as well as the full business cost. Charging that unavoidable base fee only to the Shopify option would bias the decision. Conversely, do not omit new apps or a replacement online platform from the VoVi side.

Inventory needs a current demonstration

Shopify’s inventory transition matters to comparisons written now: Stocky stopped managing inventory after August 31, 2026, and Shopify directs merchants to its native workflows. Verify purchasing and transfers in the current admin and POS, including historical-data handling. Do not use an old feature chart to declare a universal Pro requirement.

Run the same product example in VoVi: variants, a partial delivery, a transfer, a sale and a return. Ask both vendors to identify the subscription and permissions required. The useful result is an auditable inventory journey your team understands, not matching feature names.

Staff access and payments may change the answer

Shopify documents custom POS roles and POS-only staff under Pro. Check whether those controls solve a real need before choosing the tier. VoVi includes staff and commission tools, but the exact commission and return rules still need to pass your test.

Both proposals must also specify the card workflow. VoVi uses an external terminal. Shopify offers supported integrated readers in eligible markets and documents external-terminal recording as a different option. An app subscription does not establish that your existing payment device works automatically. Demonstrate a declined payment and a refund, not just a successful charge.

International fit comes before price

VoVi supports six app languages and a defined list of countries, with one country and currency per account. Its country exclusions still apply. Shopify’s integrated in-person payment availability follows its own supported-country list and currency rules.

Obtain the local fiscal and receipt requirements, the device list and the software billing currency for each proposal. A Spanish-language page is useful to a reader; it is not evidence of product availability in every Spanish-speaking country. Keep international processing as a local quote rather than reusing US rates.

The recommendation can go either way

Favor Shopify when connecting online and physical commerce removes substantial work or protects an existing operation. Favor VoVi when physical retail is the priority and its included functions, support and total cost pass the trial. If the choice is close, ask staff to repeat the most awkward customer journey in both systems and record where extra steps or unresolved dependencies remain.
