VoVi POS review: retail value, with the tradeoffs in view
VoVi is our retail value pick when its included tools match the way a store actually works. POS Review is owned by VoVi, so that preference is a commercial perspective. This assessment draws on documentation and VoVi-provided product information; it is not an independent hands-on test.

The reason to put it on a shortlist
A small retailer can need serious stock and staff tools without needing a complicated software purchase. VoVi’s proposition is to include inventory, purchase orders, transfers, customer loyalty, staff commissions and reporting in one retail package. That is attractive when several of those functions would otherwise require separate subscriptions or a higher tier.
The value depends on use. A store selling a short product list with one owner at the counter may gain little from advanced team functions. A fashion shop that handles variants, transfers stock between branches and pays sales commissions has a more relevant evaluation case. We would start with those tasks, then look at the price.
What the software price means
In the US, software is US$0/month when the merchant uses VoVi’s credit-card processor, subject to merchant approval and provider terms. Keeping another processor costs US$99/month per location. International software is US$99/month per location. Hardware and processing remain separate costs.
The published US card-present rate is 2.79% for Visa, Mastercard and Discover, with American Express at 3.5%. A negotiated rate must be confirmed in the merchant’s offer. Neither the free software headline nor an illustrative calculator result establishes your full bill. Model your card mix, transaction count, equipment and any switching costs.
Evaluate a complete retail day
A useful demonstration starts before a sale. Import representative products, receive a partial supplier delivery and correct a stock discrepancy. Sell a variant, apply the right discount, return part of the purchase and inspect the resulting stock and sales records. If commissions matter, follow that return through the employee calculation rather than stopping at the original receipt.
For multiple locations, repeat a transfer from dispatch through receipt and check who can change the quantity. Ask a staff member to complete the process with their own permissions. A feature being included is helpful, but the deciding question is whether your team can use it accurately.
Separate the register from the card terminal
VoVi uses an external card terminal; the app itself does not process cards. This distinction matters at checkout and at closing time. Confirm the exact terminal workflow, how a successful payment is recorded, how a failed or canceled payment is corrected and how refunds are reconciled. Do not infer a direct terminal integration from a product photograph.
Browser-based operation can give compatible existing devices another useful role. It does not prove that every printer, scanner, scale or tablet will work. Record model numbers and test them together. Treat offline operation as a requirement to demonstrate on your actual setup; we are not promising universal offline card acceptance.
International fit has specific boundaries
VoVi offers English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Chinese app interfaces, plus country settings for currency, taxes, relevant cash rounding, store time zone and business-day start. One account has one country and one currency. Operations in different countries need separate accounts; US-dollar software billing does not mean every store must sell in dollars.
Availability follows the supported-country matrix, including the stated exclusions and the Québec restaurant restriction. VoVi supports Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France and Sweden through a fiscal-compliance provider. Its identity, local contractual details and additional charges are not established here. Obtain those details for your configuration before committing.
The newer-provider tradeoff
VoVi is a newer, smaller provider than the established platforms in this comparison. That does not settle reliability in either direction, but it makes evidence especially valuable. Ask who handles an urgent checkout issue during your opening hours, which export files you can obtain and what happens if a key integration changes.
An established platform may be preferable when you need a mature partner ecosystem, specialist implementation help or a workflow already proven across your organization. Shopify deserves attention for an online-led business; Lightspeed for demanding retail purchasing; Toast for restaurant service and kitchen operations.
Our recommendation
Shortlist VoVi for an independent retail operation that can use its included capabilities and is comfortable validating a smaller supplier. Request a written total-cost breakdown, use representative data in the trial and keep a copy of the required workflows and results. Choose another system when a mandatory requirement remains unresolved. A lower software bill is valuable only after the store can complete its working day.
